Welcome
We are pleased to invite you to the 5th MIM Pan- African Malaria Conference, to be held November 2-6, 2009 in Nairobi, Kenya. MIM Pan-African Conference (PAC) is open to all malaria researchers and control experts from malariaendemic countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as malaria researchers, science administrators, and representatives from private foundations, governments and international organizations throughout the world. We expect a broad variety of participants from universities, research institutions, ministries of health, private sector groups, international agencies, and nongovernmental organizations.
Themes
The 2009 MIM Pan-African Malaria Congress is a meeting created for you and, most importantly, by you. We invite you to submit abstracts of your most recent results in the following areas in malaria:
- Parasite biology;
- Vector biology and control;
- Antimalarial drugs; Malaria vaccines;
- Immunology; Malaria epidemiology;
- Case management and control;
- Research capacity strengthening;
- Health research ethics;
- Health systems research;
- Socio-economic aspects.
Podium presentations will be structured into plenary sessions, roundtable panel discussions and parallel sessions, with the location and timing coordinated to optimize your access to thematically-related topics.
Location
Nairobi is a sprawling city, the metropolis of Kenya and the business centre for East and Central Africa. It is in this city that Africa’s most modern convention complex – The Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) which is sandwiched in between two lane highways bustling with traffic, numerous shopping centres and markets, good security. International standard hotels and sophisticated entertainment in clean and evergreen surroundings add to its charm. Just outside of the city centre is the Nairobi National Park, and the nearby Bomas of Kenya host performances of traditional dancing and singing. The Langata Giraffe Centre offers visitors the chance to handfeed the Rothschild giraffes inhabiting the area. Nairobi is also the safari capital of Africa and a good base for travel in Kenya.
Conference Venue
The KICC is a global centre of excellence in conferencing. Designed by the gifted Norwegian Architect, Karl Henrick Nostivic, in 1967, the KICC stands out in Nairobi’s skyline. It is a timeless landmark that evokes pride in all Kenyans. It remains the largest Conference Centre in Eastern and Central Africa and one of the largest in Africa.
Accommodation
A block of rooms in a variety of hotels in the vicinity of KICC will be reserved for congress participants. Hotel reservation information will be available on the conference website after January 2009.
Call for Abstracts
The deadline for abstract submission is November 28, 2008. The scientific committee welcomes submissions of original work for both oral and poster presentations. Abstracts must be submitted as an electronic file in MS Word and must adhere to the abstract guidelines.
